Other Information
Daniel JURD - Daniel arrived aboard the Perseus on 4 August 1802. He had been convicted of stealing 12 lbs of bacon and sentenced to 7 years transportation. In 1812 he married Elizabeth Douglas, daughter of First Fleet Convicts, William and Mary Douglas nee Groves. Daniel & ELizabeth were married at St Matthew's Anglican Church, Windsor. They lived at Pitt Town. There's was a relatively large family of 9 children, 6 boys and 3 girls. Daniel died on 16 August 1833 and is buried at St James' Anglican Cemetery, Pitt Town, NSW. Following his death, Elizabeth with 8 of her children and an aging father, moved to The Branch, where her eldest child, John, was living and working. William Douglas died there in 1838 and is buried in the Old General Cemetery on Settlers Road. Elizabeth died in 1877 and is buried next to her father. Elizabeth's son and grandson, both named William are also buried at St Albans. In 2002 - Daniel & Elizabeth's headstones were refurbished to commemorate the 200th arrival of Daniel in the Colony. So far I have traced nearly 10,000 people associated with Daniel & Elizabeth. A book detailing some 8500 names and stories was launched as part of the bicentenary celebrations. Research is ongoing and I would appreciate any assistance given, as a revised and updated book/CD/DVD is planned to mark the 200th wedding anniversary in 2012 of Daniel & ELizabeth. All help is greatly appreciated. Please feel free to contact me at any time
