Denise's Social Column

The Fisher's Ghost Stall is coming up on Saturday 12th November and I am looking for donates of cakes and items to sell.

The Xmas raffle at Macarthur Square will be held on every Thursday night from November 10th /17th/24th/ and December 1st and I need volunteers to do a few hours, selling tickets.

Our last outing for the year is a visit to the Police and Justice Museum on Saturday 19th November. This should be a great day, so come along and enjoy yourselves.

This site is a growing collection of Australian online publications, established initially by the National Library of Australia in 1996, and now built in collaboration with nine other Australian libraries and cultural collecting organisations.

The name, PANDORA, is an acronym that encapsulates the mission: Preserving and Accessing Networked Documentary Resources of Australia.

Over 18,000 pages of online records for family history research in NSW.

This provides images of historical documents which contain information which can help you trace people who lived and worked in New South Wales during the period 1850 - 1920. These records complement and build on information you can obtain from the Pioneers and Births, Deaths and Marriages indexes and the Genealogical Research Kit.

The service provides records in the following categories - Directories, Electoral Rolls, Miners and Mining Leases, Land Purchasers and Lessees, Farmers, Graziers, Shearers and Station Hands, Other Occupations including Civil Servants, Teachers etc., Voters, Petitioners, Friendly Society Members etc.

Australian convicts tried in the Courts at Lancaster Castle.
The Shire Hall Manager has collected many records of convicts tried there. She welcomes enquiries.

Fact sheets are designed to introduce you to the records held on a variety of subjects and people. They describe only a small proportion of the collection and usually include only a selection of the records held on their topic. They should be regarded as just a starting point for your research.

NSW State Archives

Archives in Brief

AIBs are the information leaflets and are an excellent starting point for your research. They are designed to give you brief historical information on a particular topic, along with a list of the most relevant records in the collection. AIBs do not provide entire lists of records relating to a particular topic, but give you practical tips and information to carry out your research.
A copy of each of these AIB's is also held in the Family History Room. You can also access some of these AIB's on the web.
