NEW TECHNOLOGY ROOM READY SOON.
Inerest mounts as Campbelltown City Library creates the new Technology Room. This is being located behind the main information desk and will be accessible by members of the public. Patrons will be able to use the Microsoft Office, encyclopedias and much more. This will be especially useful for students. It is proposed that "Internet" access will also be made available allowing patrons to browse the "World Wide Net" for information. This means that anyone, even though many people do not as yet own a computer, will be able to seek any information, anywhere in the world, as data is constantly being added to the "Net".
Of special interest to family history researchers will be the ability to access genealogy conferences provided by the "Net".
These computers will be a boon to newcomers to computering. Through them people will be able to see what is available and thereby help them make a valued judgement when purchasing their own computers.
"Everthing is on track", said Jeff Stonehouse, Research Department head, "We wxpect to be in full operation in late January, if everything goes according to plan."
We welcome this new service as another plus for our library.
PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGING PROJECT UNDER WAY.
Another exiting innovation is in progress at Campbelltown Library. Digitised and catologued pictures will be added to the new computers being installed.
These pictures will include photographs of local identities, buildings, landscapes, contemporary images and will endeavour to span the history of Campbelltown.
The Library Staff are now collaborating with volunteers of the Campbelltown and Airds Historical Society in identifying, digitising and cataloguing an estimated 10,000 photographs, giving access to the Historical Society's considerable collection of photgraphs.
Anyone with any valuable photographs of Campbelltown or its indentities should lend such to the Campbelltown & Airds Historical Society for preservation in this manner.
A grant of $34,000 from the Library Council of New South Wales has allowed this project to proceed.
These photographs will be a valued asset to Family Historians whose families once lived in Campbelltown. Copies will be available for inclusion in family history books, provided suitable acknowledgement is made.
The project will ensure that these photographs will be preserved as long as the library servcie exists.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

CAMPBELLTOWN D.F.H.S. VISITS HILL END.
A remarkably well kept town was discovered by our Society members who travelled to Hill End on 9/10 November.
13 brave members travelled by Council bus driven by Brian Burnett to this historic town which is under the care of the National Parks and Wildlife.
Of particular interest were pictures of houses erected on the front of the now vacant blocks of land, showing what the houses which once stood there were like.
These pictures were obtained from metal photographic plates and forma valued historic record of the town.
The museum now housed in the old town's hospital was first rate and some of our members obtained photos and data of their ancestors which are available there.
For $35 members stayed at the Hill End Ranch where they were served first class meals, dinner, being three course and a superb breakfast.
June Vercoe, one of those surprised at the value said. "At that prices we were expecting sandwiches and a tent."
