FAMILY HISTORY ROOM TO BE REVAMPED.
It has been announced that the Family History Room at the Campbelltown Library is under consideration to be updated. Eddie Malcolm revealed to the November meeting of the C.D.F.H. Society of improvements under review. "It is hoped to have new shelving installed."; he advised, "so that it will be easier for patrons to find records without getting down on their knees.

It is proposed the computers containing the CD Roms will be moved into the Family History Room. These will be networked so it will be unnecessary to ask for disks as all CD Roms will be accessible from any of the computers without patrons having to tender their Library Cards at the counter. These and other matters are under consideration as the Library develops its new Technology Room. It will be here where patrons will be able to use 8 computers with CDRoms, Microsoft Office and two of the computers having "Internet Access".

"It is hoped these innovations will be ready by February," said Mr Geoff Bryant, of the Library Research Department. "However, it all depends on the budgetary constraints." he said.

ACTIVE COMMITTEE FOR C.D.F.H.SOCIETY
We are most fortunate to have a very active commitee of dedicated local people on the Society. The President, Eddie MALCOLM will often be found frequenting the genealogy section of the Campbelltown Library where he is available for help. Indeed most members of the Society are voluntary workers in the Genealogy Sections of the Library.

The Vice President and Social Secretary is Carole COCKSHOTT who also will be found at the Library, helping people with their problems. Carole is also a volunteer worker for the Campbelltown and Mortlake LDS Family History Libraries and also at the Society of Australian Genealogy in Kent Street Sydney.

The following are the other Committee members of C.D.F.H.S.:
Secretary: Bob GOLLAN Asst. Secretary: Beverley WALL
Treasurer: Lea KNIGHT
Asst. Treasurer: Don COHEN
Membership: Dorrie PROCTOR
Research Officer: Joy WHEELER
Library Roster: Betty BINSKIN
Editor: Leon WARREN
Asst. Editor: Kay RICHARDSON

EDITORIAL
Welcome to the first edition of our Newsletter. My name is Leon WARREN and I will be your Editor. I am also the Editor of the "Ghost Busters" magazine which is the main publication of this Society. We will be using this newsletter to make announcements such as forthcoming events, new books and research data available, classes to be held and particularly when the next meeting of the Society will be held.

Of course it will never replace the "Ghost Busters" magazine. In this we wish to record the history of families in Campbelltown District and to inform members of important genealogical matters. However, we hope you like this new means of communication.

BUS TRIPS - A VALUABLE COMBINATION OF RESEARCH and FELLOWSHIP.
On a Saturday every third month, the Societies Vice President, Carole COCKSHOTT, organises a bus trip to historic places of interest. The September trip was to Joadja where the members met an interesting historian, Leonie KNAPMAN, and consequently booked her to be guest speaker for the November meeting.

In October an additional trip was to Picton where Liz VINCENT, local historian showed us her many places of interest.

On 9-10 November it is planned to visit Hill End. Members interested are to contact Carole COCKSHOTT.

CAMPBELLTOWN D.F.H.S. WELL REPRESENTED AT CONFERENCE
A most enjoyable time was had by the thirteen members of this Society who made the pilgrimage to the Conference of N.S.W. Family History Association. which was held at Macquarie University on 27-29 September 1996.

The theme for the conference this year was the "Federation Period" and several speakers spoke on the legal, economic and status condition of people around that time.

Rain hampered movement between the conference hall and accomodation, but this failed to dampen spirits. Probably one of the best known personalities there was our own President, Eddie MALCOLM. Eddie was able to renew many acquaintances from past conferences.

"We gleaned much valuable information", said President Eddie MALCOM. "A generous grant from Campbelltown City Council allowed us to purchase many books and other genealogy research material for the Library" he said.

Our official representative, Joy WHEELER said, "It was a marvelous conference and I wish to thank CDFHS for allowing me to attend as their representative.

Much thanks goes to Campbelltown City Council who provided a generous grant to purchase genealogy research material at the conference and also bus transport. Also thanks goes to Society members, David FARRAR and Brian BURNETT who drove the bus.

For a full report by Joy WHEELER see next issue of "Ghost Busters" magazine due out in February 1997.

COMPUTER BEGINNERS COURSE TO BE REPEATED
It is advised that the computer course for beginners held early October will be repeated in 2nd November 1996 commencing 9am.

"It was realised that school holidays affected attendances", said course director, Leon WARREN.

"This repeat will allow those people who missed the first course an opportunity to catch up." he said. A hand out of Computer technical terms will be available. A donation of $5 is sought for the library for genealogy research material. No booking necessary.
