Denise's Social Column

Tickets for the Theatre night September 9th, are selling well, but I must have the money today from all those people who have there name on my list as going. For those people who have paid me I have your tickets, please see me for them.

Unfortunately ,I missed the trip to The Parsonage, I have not really had a chance to speak to any one about it. I hope it was very enjoyable for those who went. I hope they will do it again, as I was looking forward to seeing it myself.

The Fishers Ghost stall could do with some donated craft items and volunteers for the day, just a couple of hours would be great. It's a lot of fun.

Archives in Brief 10
Citing State Archives.
This AIB describes how you should go about citing state archive records, when referring to, or reproducing those records.
An archives citation is different from a reference in a publication, such as a book. The archives are maintained in the order in which they were created and kept.
An archives citation identifies:
* The archives institution holding the record (optional?).
* The agency that created the record.
* The record series.
* The record item itself.
* A copy reference (optional).
This AIB provides additional advices on locating the correct citations to use.

Surname Origins.

RHODES.

Origin - Rhodes is a name that came to England in the 11th century wave of migration that was set off by the Norman Conquest of 1066. The Rhodes family lived in Lincolnshire at Rhodes, from whence their name is derived.

Spelling variations include: Rhodes, Rhoades, Rhode, Rhoads, Roades, Roads and others.

First found in Lincolnshire where they were seated from very early times and were granted lands by Duke William of Normandy, their liege Lord, for their distinguished assistance at the Battle of Hastings in 1066 A.D.

Refer to:
http://www.houseofnames.com/xq/asp.fc/qx/rhodes-family-crest.htm

In the 1881 census, Rhodes families could be found spread across most of England, with a heavier concentration in the north. Lesser numbers were found in Wales.

Trevor Rhodes is our society president.
