Denise's Social Column

We have a visit to Glenlee House at Menangle on Sunday 7th May from 10am -3pm. The cost is $10 per head, proceeds going to the Cancer Council. Glenlee is currently owned by David & Tricia Wilson, I understand it will be a full tour of the house and also a visit to the olive grove for those who wish to go. A mini-bus will be available for people who cannot walk from the house to the olive grove. We will meet at the Library at 10am.

The street stall is coming up Friday 19th May in Lithgow St and I am asking for items to be sold and of course cakes etc.

A visit to the State Archives is planned for Saturday 10th June, so for those people who want to go, let me know and we will car pool on the day.

Campbelltown Show

Yet another Campbelltown Show has passed. This year despite falling attendances we have managed to increase our income from the show. One thing that seemed to help in this was the display boards. Even though we did not sell much of what was on display, they did hide the usual clutter that builds up at a show. ie bags, cups, coffee, sugar, garbage, extra items for sale, clothes etc. We were let down a little by the Show Society in that we were only given a space the same as our first year. To use both tables and be able to show all our goods in a reasonable manner we do need at least a space and a half, which is of course what we had last year. With the display boards and a larger area I am convinced we could do even better again next year.
With that in mind, I will be joining the Show Society and trying to see what can be done about it.

Volunteers: These people are the backbone of our society, without whom we may as well pack up and go home altogether. My wife Anne Rhodes and Michael Murphy who both spent the whole weekend with me at the show as usual. Jillian Murphy who was there all Saturday and Sunday. Pam Shea and David Beddie for helping out on Friday. June and Neville Vercoe for helping on Saturday. Marion May and Alex and Esma Hannah for helping on Sunday. A very big thank you to you all. I look forward to being there with you again next year.

Fireworks: I must admit they were good. Michael Murphy and I have to thank Anne and Jillian (our wives) without whose insistence on seeing the fireworks we would have been at home, warm and snug in bed instead of freezing in -1c temperatures while waiting for the stage show to finish and breathing in diesel fumes from the generator. Thanks girls, your bloods worth bottling!!! :)

Recipe Book

I am putting together a family recipe book for our Family History group and I wondered if you had a family contribution that you could send me.

Pages are ½ A4 (A5) to give you an idea.

I am also adding footnotes to each page and if you would like to give a brief history of the recipe or a little of your family history or special memories I would love you to send them.

The book is to have a members' family "feel" as well as an old Campbelltown "feel".

I hope you can help.

Many thanks
