Denise's Social Column

Christmas Party at Cataract Dam - the day was breezy but our members were all ready to have a great day and get in the Christmas spirit! We had a quick meeting after which we got into the "fun" stuff, like eating and drinking. After a well cooked BBQ (great job done by the Chefs), Trevor had us playing boule. If you are not familiar with this game it's very similar to lawn bowls and it was a lot of fun.
Margaret Bryant was our winner, good on you Marg. This was followed by a game of cricket for those who had the extra energy.
All in all it was one of our more successful Christmas parties.
Hope to do it again next Christmas.

Pictures excluded from this email.

February Outing - on Saturday, 18th February, to St. Helen's Park House, has been cancelled.

March - We have been invited to attend an Open Day at Wivenhoe Villa on Sunday, 5th March, 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. A 'period' afternoon tea will be served.

Recipe Book

I am putting together a family recipe book for our Family History group and I wondered if you had a family contribution that you could send me.

Pages are ½ A4 (A5) to give you an idea.

I am also adding footnotes to each page and if you would like to give a brief history of the recipe or a little of your family history or special memories I would love you to send them.

The book is to have a members' family "feel" as well as an old Campbelltown "feel".

I hope you can help.

Many thanks

Archives in Brief 3 - October 2002
Naturalisation Records 1834 - 1903
This AIB lists the key records held by State Records relating to naturalization, 1834 - 1903. Researchers should also consult Archives Investigator and the Concise Guide.

Topics listed in this AIB sheet are:
* What is Naturalization? There was no law covering naturalization prior to 1849. Prior to that date the process was called "denization".
* Who needed to become naturalized?
* Why use naturalization records? These generally provide: Full name, native place, occupation, age, and date and ship of arrival.
* How to use naturalization records.
* Where to find applications for naturalization up to 1903. See Colonial Secretary's Correspondence.
* Problems with using naturalization records.
* For naturalization after 1903. Use National Archives of Australia.

Campbelltown Library holds microfilm of the following in the family history room:
* Colonial Secretary Letters of Denization 1837 - 1847 (part of 1 reel)
* Colonial Secretary Registers of Certificates of Naturalization 1849 - 1903 14 reels.
