From the President’s Pen

Welcome to our website. I hope that you find it interesting and informative. Please feel free to contact me if there is something you wish to find out about the Society or if you are seeking help with your Family History. We will be only too happy to try and assist you.

Volunteers form the backbone of our Society as they do for many other community organisations. This year National Volunteer Week will be celebrated from 10 – 16 May. I wish to pay tribute to those who generously give of their time and expertise to build the Campbelltown District Family History Society. Without their commitment and devotedness CDFHS would possibly cease to exist, or at least would not be able to be as vibrant as we are.

Volunteers staff the Family History Room at Campbelltown City Library in Hurley Street from 10.00am – 12noon Monday to Saturday. They are ably supported by the Library Staff for which the Society is most grateful. Volunteers are there to be of assistance to you free of charge. Please feel free to come along and check out the Family History Room at any time but especially when our volunteers are there.

Volunteers in the Family History Room are required to be members of the Society. Membership forms are available in the rack. Joining now means your membership is valid through to 30th June 2011. Membership is only $20.00 per year for one person and $30.00 per year for a couple. There is no joining fee. Our meetings are held in the Library’s Meeting Room No 1 at 1.30 on the first Saturday of each month with the exception of January. Further information about the Society is available in a brochure in the Family History Room.

The Library and the Society are continually looking to purchase new resources to enhance the reference collection of material which is already provided. The Society raises funds to purchase resources for this collection. We are grateful to the Library for recently purchasing a significant number of resources, mainly on microfiche, and so enlarge our collection. The Society has applied for several grants which will enable us to compliment what the Library is currently purchasing.

I hope that you will avail yourself of these resources and that they will assist you in discovering more of your rich history. In closing, I wish again to pay tribute to the selfless generosity of all our volunteers who work hard throughout the year to assist. With best wishes

With best wishes
Peter R. Stewart
President CDFHS.
