From the President’s Pen
THANK YOU for visiting the Campbelltown District Family History Website. I hope you will find it informative and helpful. If you have any suggestions or queries feel free to contact me. I’d be delighted to hear from you and will do all that I can to assist you. I hope that you and your families had a wonderful celebration of Christmas and remembering that special family who gave us the reason for celebrating at this time. We held our final meeting for 2009 at Cataract Dam on 5 December. We were blessed with a very pleasant day weather-wise considering the very hot weather that had been experienced in the preceding weeks. Our Christmas Party followed the meeting and a most enjoyable time was had by all. It involved an interesting Trivial Pursuit organised by our Treasurer after which we drew the Christmas Raffle and the afternoon concluded with some light-hearted competitive games. As we head into 2010 I hope that it will be a great year as you continue or begin to tackle your family’s history. May it be a year that sees many brick walls come tumbling down for you, and a time of great discovery and that you make contact with members of your family that you’ve never met. Our year promises to be an exciting one. Our Social Secretary is arranging a series of Guest Speakers who will educate, enlighten, encourage and entertain us. Please feel welcome to attend our Monthly Meeting which is held on the first Saturday of each month except January in Meeting Room 1 at the Campbelltown City Library at 1.30pm. Following our Guest Speaker enjoy some afternoon tea and become acquainted with our members. A Seminar is also planned for September, together with other activities which will be advertised well ahead of time on our site. During the year there will also be a Beginner’s Course and if needed an Advanced Course for Family Historians which will be held at the Campbelltown Library. Dates for these events are yet to be finalised. I wish to THANK our great Executive and Committee for their hard work over the past year and also our VOLUNTEERS. Volunteers are the backbone of our Society. Thanks to those who staff the Family History Room to assist those researching. I also wish to thank all those who supported our 2009 Christmas Raffle by donating goodies for the Raffle. I encourage you to support BUSH’S MEATS, Macarthur Square, DAVID WILSON IGA PHARMACY, Queen Street, and MINTO FRUIT ORCHARD, Minto. Their generous support is greatly appreciated. Congratulations to our 11 prize winners. We had a very successful year and the proceeds raised will help provide additional resources for use in the Family History Room at the Library. Again, I wish each of you and your families a wonderful 2010 and hope that you will come and join us at one of our meetings. Come back and visit our website regularly to keep up with the various activities and check out the list of Guest Speakers and their topics. With best wishes Peter R. Stewart President CDFHS.
